Q&AGitHub Copilot

How does Copilot compare to Cursor for security?

Both Copilot and Cursor generate code with similar security characteristics since they use comparable AI models. Copilot integrates directly into VS Code and JetBrains IDEs as an autocomplete tool, while Cursor is a standalone AI-first editor with chat-based code generation. Neither tool validates the security of its suggestions. Cursor gives you more control over prompts and context, which can help you request security-conscious code, while Copilot rapid-fire suggestions may lead to accepting vulnerable code faster. The security of the final application depends on developer review, not the AI tool. UNPWNED scans the deployed result regardless of which AI tool generated the code.
